Carter days are here again?

The Malaise speech
Today, the GOPNation.com begins a new feature, “Obama = Carter?” where we will compare President Obama’s performance as president to that of President Carter. We will include polling data, unemployment numbers, inflation rates and of course, the dreaded misery index.
Complete data is already available through June 2009 (compared to June 1977).
Obama Positive
The misery index (unemployment plus inflation rate) is currently at 8.12 percent compared to 13.73 percent for Carter. However, this is largely due to us currently experiencing deinflation.
Obama Negative
Unemployment. While Carter left office seeing double-digit unemployment, in June 1977 the number stood at 7.2 percent. Compare that to the May 2009 numbers of 9.4 percent and one can see that Obama is already in a bigger hole.
Polling
While Obama stands at 62 percent, Carter stood at 63 percent at the same point in his first (and only term).
Time will tell if Obama is, in fact, just like Carter. Watch for updates…
